Dwight Foster (D.F.) Faulkner was born in 1803 in Watertown, MA. He was a dry goods merchant in Boston and also owned three woolen (flannel) mills, one in East Bethel, VT; one in Plymouth, MA; and one in Turner, ME. He turned operations of these mills over to his sons, Dwight Faulkner (1829-1894) and Francis T. Faulkner (1834-1905) but retained control and management from Boston.
